fivemile development news

Five Mile is delighted to announce plans for two new buildings at the centre. The new buildings are designed to cater for ongoing growth and demand at Queenstown’s most successful retail and business centre.

New Development at FiveMile.

What’s coming

On the corner of Five Mile Place and Murchison Road, the largest of the two buildings will be the 7,200sqm six-storey Murchison Tower, with ground floor retail and five floors of premium A Grade offices above (featuring outstanding views of The Remarkables mountain range and surrounding peaks). An adjoining three-storey car parking building will rise above the existing carpark to the rear of Woolworths supermarket.  Construction’s planned to start in autumn next year with completion expected by the end of 2027.

Business success

Queenstown Gateway Five Mile director Craig Greenwood says Five Mile’s seen as “the place to do business” with extraordinary levels of population and business growth in the district.

“Ten years down the track since the supermarket opened, our bustling and successful retail and business centre supports and strengthens local businesses, providing better amenities for our local community while creating jobs.”

Interest sought

Colliers Queenstown’s commercial division is seeking expressions of interest from key retail and office tenants. Commercial director Mark Simpson says strong market-led demand for premium office and retail space signals confidence in continued growth.

“This will be the best office address in Queenstown while remaining complementary to the existing downtown Queenstown CBD,” he says. “It’s important that the Queenstown CBD retains its vibrancy for the local community and visitors, while Frankton grows as a strong location for commerce.”

Strong design

The Murchison Tower building design mirrors the entrance to Five Mile. A gabled roofline takes its cues from the rugged Remarkables mountain range, there’s a rippling louvered façade with corten steel, and a welcoming and stylish ground-floor entrance lobby. Full-height windows capitalise on mountain views. The new car parking building will provide an additional 215 spaces.

FiveMile was delighted to host some very excited youngsters and their caregivers from Cromwell Primary School to a fun-filled Easter Egg Hunt at Walter Peak. Under blue skies and with the sun shining bright the young students enjoyed a trip on the TSS Earnslaw with the Easter Bunny adding to egg-citement levels, followed by a farm tour and all-important egg hunt. Morning tea finished off the celebrations before a chocolate-fuelled return trip to Queenstown. Thanks to our friends at MORE FM for helping organise the celebrations!

Born in Fiji, Vikrant is very much a Queenstown local, having lived here since he was six. And after having “always been in hospo”, he’s now a year into his role as Food and Beverage Manager at Sudima Queenstown Five Mile. “I originally wanted to work in IT but I’d always enjoyed watching my Mum cook at home, so I got my first hospitality job at 16 and decided that was the way to go.”

Joining Sudima in 2022 as Head Chef, he loves how the company is built around their values. “They’ve helped me grow so much and now having learned about the operational side of the hotel they’ve expanded my world past the restaurant doors”.

“I now know where we source our local beer, am helping to cut down our carbon footprint and work on ensuring our supplies are as local as can be.”

It’s so cool, everyone knows each other so well. Tenants and business owners are like extended family, and I love building new relationships. Queenstown Barbers give the best haircut.”

Family life?
“Misaki and I have been together nearly four years and we adore our nine-month-old baby Mirei, who’s half Japanese, half Fijian. I can’t wait for her to be older so I can take her fishing!”
