Born in Fiji, Vikrant is very much a Queenstown local, having lived here since he was six. And after having “always been in hospo”, he’s now a year into his role as Food and Beverage Manager at Sudima Queenstown Five Mile. “I originally wanted to work in IT but I’d always enjoyed watching my Mum cook at home, so I got my first hospitality job at 16 and decided that was the way to go.”
Joining Sudima in 2022 as Head Chef, he loves how the company is built around their values. “They’ve helped me grow so much and now having learned about the operational side of the hotel they’ve expanded my world past the restaurant doors”.
“I now know where we source our local beer, am helping to cut down our carbon footprint and work on ensuring our supplies are as local as can be.”

It’s so cool, everyone knows each other so well. Tenants and business owners are like extended family, and I love building new relationships. Queenstown Barbers give the best haircut.”
Family life?
“Misaki and I have been together nearly four years and we adore our nine-month-old baby Mirei, who’s half Japanese, half Fijian. I can’t wait for her to be older so I can take her fishing!”

It’s a family affair at Moinho Café on the corner of Five Mile Place with three brothers at the helm of the business. New favourites on the menu include a Brazilian cappuccino, traditional beef stew Vaca Atolada, a banoffee chia pudding and Japanese flavour influences. More details to come on the Five Mile website.

Keith Cameron from Flex Fitness is something of a legend here at Five Mile and we’re thrilled to see him profiled in the current issue of lifestyle publication QT magazine. The business has been flexing its muscles in the health and wellness space for close to eight years, and Keith’s been its ‘face’ since it opened, a gentle giant known to many as passionate rugby man, player and coach. “The gym model’s about selling memberships but our true commitment is to our members’ success,” says Keith. our community
We’ve loved our summer supporting community events and groups like the Lake Hayes A&P Show, the New Zealand Open (thanks Sudima Queenstown for accommodating players and sponsors) and the Wakatipu Rowing Club.
Five Mile’s Flex Fitness has been flexing its muscles in the health and wellness space for close to eight years. Fitness director Keith Cameron has been the face of the business since it opened, a gentle giant known to many as a passionate rugby man, as player and coach.
In his early days he represented Otago and Southland along with the Highlanders and Māori All Blacks before transitioning to scrum coaching for the Highlanders and Otago Rugby. He’s the first to admit that high-level sport has sometimes taken its toll on his body. That’s why he’s perfectly placed to understand the importance of multi-disciplinary practice and support available at Flex Fitness.
So much more than ‘just a gym’, he says the secret sauce to business success lies in unwavering investment in their clients. “The gym model is about selling memberships, but our true commitment is to our members' success. We begin with a comprehensive consultation and guide them on a journey, providing a range of tools and resources to help them achieve their goals. “Our exceptionally high standards apply to our dedicated staff and state-of-the-art equipment plus strong connections with healthcare and sports professionals.”
This holistic approach enhances their ability to offer top-tier support, motivation, and nutrition guidance. Expert trainers help clients maximize workouts, reach their fitness goals faster, and recover from injuries. Semi-private personal training sessions are so much more than generic boot camps or classes. Each workout is personally designed with a scientific approach to help clients train smarter, avoid injuries, and see real progress in a fun, supportive environment.
Keith takes pride in Flex Fitness being Queenstown’s only official Hammer Strength Training facility, featuring a wide range of Hammer Strength racks and plate-loaded machines. The gym also boasts a fully equipped pin-loaded functional training area, ensuring access to the latest in strength and performance training. “Every five years, we completely upgrade it to maintain the highest standards and stay up to date with the latest equipment.”
The gym’s first-class facilities also include private bathrooms, an infrared sauna, and a Fit3D body scanner to track progress. 24/7 access means members can train whenever it suits their schedule. Many clients are long-term locals who appreciate quality equipment and exceptional service.
Keith says they love supporting everyone from seasoned gym-goers looking for top-tier gear or someone new to fitness seeking guidance. They help beginners overcome ‘gym-timidation’ by introducing them to structured programmes and key equipment. Youths and elderly people are the final element of the Flex Fitness ‘gym family,’ including members up to 75 years old who focus on functional movement patterns and use equipment with multiple functions. Keith says he has a "testing relationship" with clients. "I’m helping them make lifestyle changes, but that often involves pushing them to their limits to achieve sustainable transformations.”
